I have two bachelors degrees and I own a small business.  I have worked since I was 16 and have never asked for a handout from the government.  I have always taken responsibility for my actions and I refuse to sit idly by while big corporations buy there way out of responsibility.  Corporations have a responsibility to their employees, their communities, and the earth, not just their share holders.  I want to be able to purchase food and everyday products without having to research every ingredient to avoid carcinogens.  I want the Federal Reserve to stop inflating away the money that I have worked so hard to earn.  And I especially want my mom and dad, who are in their 50's, to be able to find jobs.  They have also worked since they were 16 and have been victims of corporate cutbacks.  If they cannot find work, I of course will support them, but I will not be able to start a family of my own.  These are just my personal greivances, maybe you don't agree.  Maybe you think I'm a lazy, dirty, hippy and that's fine.  No matter what you think of me or the movement, I wish you better success in your life than those of us in the 99% have had. 

I have attended 3 meetings and have always left feeling disappointed because we seemed to lack a clear plan/message that is easily understood by everyone.

 

Our mission statement is clear and correct as it stands.

            “End corporate corruption of democracy”

 

We have set two objectives to achieve our mission.

1.      Institute campaign finance reform that removes excessive private and all corporate contributions to candidates and their political parties at all levels of government: city, state and federal.

2.      Elimination of corporate person hood through the reversal of the Citizens United decision.

 

When we have completed our mission, the nation reaps the following benefits. These will include but not limited to, everything that was listed as demands on the October 1^st 2011 4pm meeting.

• End privatized prisons
• Police accountability for incidents of violence
• Fair treatment for immigrant workers
• Reduce private & corporate influence of campaigns
• Stop tax haven abuse
• End corporate personhood (reverse Citizens United)
• Hold those accountable within large financial institutions for their company’s failure or collapse
• Tax big oil’s windfall profits, use that tax for job training, unemployed, homeless, shelters and schools
• Economic justice for the 99%
• Money for human need, not corporate greed
• End the drug war
• Equal access to higher education
• Bring the troops home
• Respect for indigenous peoples
• Dignity for workers

 

The above could be expressed in a formal declaration like the one drafted by Occupy New York.
