I don't know the OP or his/her intentions, but some valid points are made... the online presence for OH really does need to be drastically enhanced. But this is doable.... very doable. Will just take a little effort, which I don't think should be a hurdle for the group.

It's actually "Because we're in Texas", but my larger point is WHAT!!!!!!

Occupy Houston can't be expected to be as large and coherent of a group??????? Wait, YOU ARE ONLY IN THE 4TH LARGEST CITY IN THE US???? What are you waiting for?

Or perhaps it is a reflection that, like most of the south, the population is more right-leaning, and despite being in a major metropolis, there really isn't as much lefty-looniness as you filthy hippies would like!

Or, instead of driving to Austin, you could provide your insight to this group and help it grow. Since we're in Texas, you can't really expect the Occupy groups here to be as big and evolved as groups in New York, Los Angeles, etc, where change-minded coalitions already existed in large numbers prior to this movement. It may be that while Occupy Wall Street is big enough and evolved enough to tackle more ambitious actions and activities, Occupy Houston might need to spend a lot of time simply on outreach and growth before it's ready for that level. Maybe the best thing OH can do right now is simply build up a local network, and link people together. So that it IS in a position as soon as possible to make a bigger impact.

Love that you're anxious and impatient for change though... I do feel the same way.

I wonder about this whole occupy group.. from the minutes posted there seems to be no defenitive ambition.... looking for things to do your haunted house.. really? What a waste of a website... you are supposed to be here to change things.. and your site should reflect this. I have every intention of spending my time in the occupy group in order to protest the current status quo.. but I will be driving to Austin to help there.. Occupy Houston seems to be the group of protestors that the conservative media keep griping about.

I think I can help with this actually... I'm planning to attend the GA today for the first time, and would love to address everyone with a possible solution to this. Because I agree with you 100%, the online presence is very important and it can become significantly more useful. This might be the best way for me to help the group.

I'm no troll. I'm a person who supports the Occupy movement and recognizes its essential nature. My concern is the terrible, useless shape of the OH website and communications. I marched and organized in Austin during VietNam and we had nothing but special printings of underground papers to keep everybody on target and aware of events.

This morning, for instance, I look to see what OH is doing and where. I can read some too-short-to-be-helpful minutes from a meeting four days ago. Oh, and I can also read about a delightful Halloween event two days plus from now. That's it? Please. How much work would it take to have an ongoing box, day by day, that says, basically, "Occupy Houston is centered at such and such a location today, these are the events scheduled, here (in a sentence or two) is how you can participate and support in those events. Add to that, "here are the addresses and the closest bus stops/train stops if you plan to arrive."

Oakland is trying to deal with terrible problems of which, I trust, most in the movement here are aware. Other locations face problems and challenges and are *doing* something. Here? Why, there was a meeting four days ago and, in two days, it's Halloween. Wheeee!

Make use of the tools that are open to you. The Net, Twitter, FB, etc. Whoever is allegedly taking the responsibility to inform the people for whom Occupy Houston is vital need to either get out of the way or get to work as if their work matters.
