Freerational, as far as the editing, that sounds great. I just now sent you my email by private message. Hopefully it will be legible. You're right about those weird formatting issues. I just now sent an email to the Web team about it, but am not sure when they will be able to look into it.

But yes, for now, you can send the material back to me when edited. I'll make it a priority to get it into the right hands (probably one of the site admins, if the material is from the web site).

I've also sent you a link to the OH Web team google group.

I don't think there's been any violence by or against OH people, but others might be able to say with more certainty. There is a security volunteer group, a/k/a peacemakers, as well. But yes, there's no substitute for common sense, whether looking after one's property or one's person.

I think a systematic study of the nation's current zeitgeist would be really beneficial to the movement at large. Getting the pulse of the nation would help a lot in creating unison and in getting voices heard.

As for the danger aspect-- I'm familiar with the area. Have there been any safety issues thus far? I read somewhere about a problem with theft, but has their been any violence? I've traveled abroad to some pretty sketchy places by myself and have found that instinct and preparedness go a long way in self-defense.

As for the editing, John, I sent you a private message, but in case that failed (I had some problems with the page), I will just start copy/pasting some of what I see and submit it back to you (or is there someone else I should send it to) when I'm done. I'll get started on that tomorrow morning.

Feel free to edit my grammar, spelling, typos, punctuation and run-ons.

Yes, I think you are correct, most of the people are decent. The equivalent of small pockets of NeoNazis that concern me. I know over my lifetime I have had odd things happen to me and I am not even in the public eye. This area is known for its share of crime, and with awareness I think we can manage it.

Yes, as I corrected myself above and mentioned in the Weekend Warriors thread, if we can find ways to unite the country on meaningful concerns, it may be very powerful. Perhaps we can take surveys of more conservative types, for their response, before we go to conservative media. Wonder if we can utilize the FB trolls, in various U.S. regions, for this survey purpose....now that might be interesting. They don't need to know we are part of Occupy. Identify the trolls first would be important. Maybe a group administrator could help?

FB OccupyMarines seemed to be a bit neutral when I looked at it today....that might also be a good testing ground.

Looking forward to seeing how this energy in Houston for the movement develops.

I personally am not even sure what literature we have, or where it is, or who's been responsible for it, but editing is important, so let me know what can I do to make it easy for you to contribute in this way :-)

While I agree with you Katie, that the majority of supporters are likely to come from neutral/liberal media, I hope we will be careful about ostracizing the other half of the country. I've seen enough of the hate-mongering in the forums here to know that your fears are well-founded, but in my experience most people are good and few will actually mean harm. The internet invites the most dramatic of statements on any side of an issue, because we're all tucked away behind our computer screens. Read enough YouTube comments and I tend to lose all faith in humanity. It's in public that faith will be restored and where real action will begin to take shape.

Anyway, as KUHF has transitioned to a 24 hour news/information station, I'm sure that they would be interested in following the local movement. If not, there are always the broadcasts such as Talk of the Nation that invite listener response. As long as the call is on point with the topic of conversation (and well thought out, no point in presenting ourselves as loons with an agenda), I see no reason the producers would be adverse to someone slipping in a tag line, "This is so-and-so calling from Occupy Houston in Tranquility Park."

Another question. I'm not sure that this is the best place for posing it, but I'd rather keep from posting a new thread. I've been reading over some of the material for the OccHou and, hopefully this won't hurt anyone's feelings, much of it is in desperate need of editing. At this stage in its infancy, gross misspellings and typos could hurt the credibility that the group is trying to rebuild. I'm not a grammarsmith, but I would be willing to edit the pamphlets and such as I am not yet able to get down to the park.

Sounds like good advice, Katie. As far as arrests, I don't think there have been any at an official Occupy Houston protest. I think a handful of people were arrested at a protest organized by some other group a few weeks ago, and I don't know whether any of the arrestees were involved with OccHou or not. Some of the participants were OccHou people, but news reports that it was an official Occupy Houston protest were erroneous.

I think it would be a wonderful message to tell KUHF how OccupyHouston has not had any violent incidents and arrests…assuming that is still true. We also need to think about what else we want to say….meaningful messages, regarding change, that unite Americans more than divide them.

Also, later if you add in more media, we probably want to be careful with the audience, focusing on neutral to liberal, as not to give ideas to anyone that might want to head downtown to harass and provoke our Occupy during protests, and especially not come to harm them overnight in the park. I have come to realize in the last week or two there are quite a few anger mongers out there that will do anything they can to stop the movement.
