Dear Occupy Volunteers:

Darren who claims to be with Occupy has refused to leave the property at 1109 Genesee at the repeated request of the leaseholder and the instructions of the property owners for all volunteers to leave the site.

The last instructions approved with Amanda Kiser and Shaun Crump were

that (1) the center was to be used for office space (2) the hours would be from 9 am to 6 pm

and that instructions were to be followed as given by Amanda and Shaun.

Please see below excerpt from Occupy Houston website:

In addition, the 1109 space is available to Occupy Houston group to be used as office space, as a location for meetings, and to store workgroup and participant supplies as necessary.

The following rules have been established to ensure proper use of the building:

  1. Clean up after yourself.
  2. Conserve resources.
  3. Smoke outside.
  4. Sign In/Out.
  5. IF staying for any amount of time, you must be working on something productive.
  6. Respect Shaun and Amanda’s wishes, they are responsible for the house and what happens within it.

To address concerns about access to the space, we have established that the house will be open daily from 9a-6p.

I am clarifying in writing that the office space is not to be used or considered as a residence for volunteers against the express consent of leaseholder or agent Shaun Crump.

Please ask all volunteers to leave except as directed and approved by Shaun Crump during the office hours of 9 am to 6 pm, where any work on the property has been ordered stopped immediately due to conflicts and lack of permission from the property owners. Only Shaun Crump and Amanda Kiser have authority to make sure all actions and decisions are by approval of teh leaseholder and property owner. If there are any disputes that Shaun Crump cannot resolve, he is authorized to ask community leader Darrell Patterson to lock down the house and ask all volunteers to leave until such conflict can be resolved elsewhere off the property, after which the volunteers may return once an agreement is reached.

No persons or volunteers with Occupy are welcome, invited or permitted to be on site if they do not respect the consent of the leaseholder, property owners or agents; all guests must agree not to incur, invoke or impose legal actions or expenses but to respect the consent of other persons equally or else leave the property voluntarily.

Freedmen's Town volunteers and residents cannot afford any more unnecessary legal disputes, costs or abuses; and after several run-ins with Occupy volunteers who cannot respect that, a meeting and agreement is requested to prevent any such legal abuse, bullying or threats of unnecessary legal or court action by Occupy volunteers.

Thank you,

Emily Nghiem
