With over a month into the movement, what changes have taken place within politics or business that could show some positive steps forward?

You won't know that until election day 2012. ORGANIZE ! VOTE!
This is what has happened to you: In 2010, we had an off-year election, and people on the left just did not vote, and look what they got: The Tea Party. The real question you should be asking yourself, is what changes came about because of that movement ? Economy down the tubes thanks to their manufactured "debt ceiling crisis". Government paralysis thanks to their corporate bank rollers who want to stop any and all change to their gravy train. College tuitions thru the roof. Unions busted and collective bargaining rights curtailed. Get people to the Organize events! Motivate people to vote! The biggest thing the right wing fears is big voter turn out, because the truth is, they are the minority and they only get control when we don't vote! That is why the corporate fascists wage war on the voting booth, passing laws to make it as difficult as possible for the poor and the dispossessed to VOTE! FIGHT BACK! We need big majorities of progressives to change this country, us just standing out in the streets is great for motivating others who hear us and to make them think, and we need to carry the message to them: Get down to the ballot box!!!

The one to keep old black people from voting? That's who you guys are really scared of, the old, the powerless. Well, guess who just arrived to replace ACORN ? US. Now you got something new to be scared of. Time for you to get the phony emails and the photo shopped and chopped youtubes out, isn't it? It's not going to work anymore, even with your Jim Crow laws, we are going to VOTE.

No identification No vote…So what is wrong with that? Are you saying you want all the Illegals to vote so they can vote for the Democrats?….Do you not have any ID?…That crap that old black people don’t have ID …Right uh huh …How are they cashing their welfare check if they don’t? Put your race card away as it only works for weak minded people like you.

Haha… you kids. Smearing every page making yourselves look so foolish. For something that is small and insignificant you sure do spend alot of time and keystrokes on our page. Lmao. Its ok to be scared. "First they will ignore us, then they will laugh at us, then they will fight us, then we will win." Sounds like you are still laughing. When you are ready to fight us, please come down and attack non-violent, unarmed American citizens excercising our constitutional right to freedom of speech and peaceful assembly. That will be just one more step towards or goal. If you're skeptical however, just feel free to avoid this page and put the worries out of your mind. It will just blow over soon. < Lulz. Isn't that what you want? You want things to stay the same? Well tough ish bish… change is the only constant in the universe. Better learn to adapt and grow with it or you may get left behind. Happy trails. :)

I didn't say there was anything wrong with it. It doesn't concern me to be honest. Do what you think is best and see how things work out for you. Personally, I'm going to continue to vote here where I know my voice is heard. I hope your votes end up getting something done. Gotta tell ya tho, your progress thus far hasn't been very compelling. :) have a nice day.

All of the petty quibbling aside, has there been anyone from the business community, local or state government to engage anyone with Occupy Houston? Has there been an increase in involvement or awareness? Is there anything tangible to point to that will inspire others to get involved?
I think that an impediment to gaining momentum is the perception that OH is sputtering. This is the 4th largest city in the nation. There are dozens of cities that get far more pub (negative and positive), while being a fraction of the size of Houston. Austin, Oakland, Denver, Portland, Sacramento, et al.
If someone can point to some "wins", I think it would go a long way.

Changes in Politics = None.
The Occupy Movement doesn’t stand for anything and the only coherent message seen is that you are against rich people, banks, and corporations. You have no influence in the government incomparison to the Tea Party that controls 80+ seats in the House of Representatives. You are not even protesting the right people to support your positions. The government enacted the legislation that bailed out banks and allowed our housing market to collapse. Your movement makes about as much sense as someone demanding McDonalds give them a BK Whopper.
Changes in Business = None. Nobody from the banking industry is going to write you a check. Since you are just hanging around occupying you are not working..so those of you with Jobs will likely soon lose them for missing work. Those of you looking for Jobs are missing the opportunity to interview and Job hunt because you are too busy hanging around protesting. You are helping the Entertainment industry. Late night comedians have plenty of new material to work with in their shows.

^ Don't hate you and I certainly don't fear you.
If all you can do is call me a Troll, and say you feel sorry for me. GREAT. I'd rather be a slave to the evil corporations and have a well paying job than sit in an empty park with a handful of filthy drum-banging hippies, waiting on my next meal to arrive via the short-bus donation express.
You are a small, small individual,….. thrashing around for acceptance.

You fucking loath us.
To others here, I would say looking for some sort of massive change after only a few weeks is premature, at best. The biggest change is that we have STARTED SOMETHING. People, maybe only now a few people, but more everyday, have brought out into the open our increasing loss of our humanity and our democracy to the new Friendly Fascist State.

Like I said before… we may appear as a joke to you, and that's fine. Because in constantly and obsessively posting on the website of the movement you supposedly find SOOOO insignificant and inconsequential, you appear as a joke to everyone. Thanks for being here and letting us know we are worth devoting your time and energy to. We love you guys! :) have a nice day!

Oh conduit….poor misguided soul. Your not a joke to me…your a joke to the entire country. Constant and obsessive? I think this is my 4 or 5 post…but ok sure. What I say is the truth representing the millions of the silent majority in this country. We are the people that make it possible for your little band losers to protest. The goods your consume, and the park you occupy would not exist without us. You are not protesting the people that could change the things in society you don't like. You are against banks…right? Encouraging people to close their accounts…ok…fine. However, it was legislation in congress that established the rules of the financial industry that allowed banks to prosper at the expense of others. So why are not protesting in Washington? This is funny to all of us, because what you are doing is really just a circus. Drum circles? Poetry Walks? A Corporate House of Horrors? Really? This is going to change America? It didn't work in the 60's why would it work today.
I enjoy posting and if what I say can get even one of your group to put down their blunt go look for a job…my work is done…of course most companies drug test…so that will be a problem.

please check out the site's Events, Announcements and blog section. OccupyHouston has met with multiple government officials and has the support of multiple candidates for city council. OccHou has participated in the weekly public forums at city hall until they were temporarily cancelled a few days ago.
Though the occupation is still less than a month old (correction there – Houston's occupation started October 6th, and planning one week earlier), we have organized several actions and are looking forward to even bigger actions. Yes, we are making a difference. Everyone who comes out to the occupation for even a limited amount of time adds their voice and power to the movement.
Houston is not Austin or Portland or Oakland, we are Houston, we have very unique challenges. We are big oil central. In a world still clinging to fossil fuels, this draws negative fire. That said, there is no shortage of positive and curious people who stop by and check out the info table, talk with folks and start showing up regularly.
There are several volunteer groups who have been steadily organizing and better connecting with each other and the public. As part of the web team, I've been focused more on other web site issues, but today put the forums as top priority. thanks for defending the forums from the trolls in the meantime, much appreciated. we now have login access required and will be organizing moderators for forums…
If you would really like to find out more I suggest you come out in person, as we still cannot get all the updates of daily events onto the website fast enough, though we're folding in all the great offers for web team members just as fast as we can! :)

I was not able to quickly find any info on government officials that have met with OH, nor candidates for City Council that support the movement. Even if the info is somewhere on the site, it's not easily accessible.
Progress of the movement is crucial for growth. Flashmobs are neat, but tend to trivialize the issue. Shell, BofA, Chase or BP didnt become global companies by organizing flashmobs. They constantly tell you why they're better than the other. Whether people come to the park or not, it seems reasonable to get the info on the web. There are realistic challenges, but it would be helpful to advertise the results. Blaming big oil will only go so far. Results will go much, much further.
The log-in is good for eliminating spam, but if the intent was to suppress dissenting views (of citizens) I would think that the movement would be opposed to that.
Outreach needs to step up.

I'll keep it really simple, as we are having to with all suggestions> come out an add your energy. Anyone with a suggestion needs to back it themselves, we have no shortage of suggestions but a shortage of people to make it happen. Come out if you are so motivated. There is all that info on the site if you actually try to look at bit.

as a proportional metaphor, we have about 70 roles or proposed or suggested roles, and 25 people who regularly try to fill multiple roles and need a break, so again, if you feel you have some good ideas GREAT come on down or otherwise figure a way to implement them; to best apply yourself.
We are each having to find our place within the movement, no one can tell others how to apply themselves. I respect your decision on how or how much you decide to contribute. I expect the same respect in return.
