So I'm going to close my Wells Fargo Account, that my student loan automatically debited from. It takes a while for them to get the paper work to me. Which credit union is a good one to sign up for instead?

IF they are charging you fees, talk with the bank manager. Tell him/her you would like to them to change their policy or you will move your accounts. If possible, go in with a friend or two that will do the same or have a petition signed about their fees.

I am not aware of credit unions in this area, but there may be some. Perhaps you can look on-line to investigate what would work best for you. Make sure you inquire about any fees you may incur before transferring over.

brry,

What parts of town are you typicall in (i.e., Katy and downtown, if you live in the former, work in the latter). That may have some influence on who you go with. I'll do some research after I finish my other Occupy homework. Eek!

I am in West Houston. Memorial area.

There are three close by me and two are federal. Is federal better? Or is it actually worse?

Ugh. I deleted my own post. Here to try again.

Credit unions will have some eligibility requirements. So checking these out will be the quickest way to narrow down your list. Then figure out what your needs are. Do you travel a lot? The union with the most branches would be better suited for you. Do you plan to take out a loan in the future? Check out interest rates, etc.

I don't actually know much about credit unions. Maybe somebody else here can offer more wisdom than me. Will continue doing some research, but I'll admit, it's towards the bottom of today's to do list.
