Inclusiveness and Solidarity

I was in attendance at today's general assembly at noon.  I began to feel that the group is in danger of splintering and dividing.  Some people were claiming tea-party, others communism, others identified with Occupy Wall Street and still others were identify with Alex Jones.  I, personally, do not really agree 100% with any of these particular factions, however I think that this is a powerful moment in our history and that we need to start looking more closely at what we have in common than our differences.  We need to be inclusive to everyone who feels injustice in our system and stand in solidarity.  We need to be one voice united.  Otherwise we will all just be talking over one another and no one will be heard.  Our groups will become smaller and smaller and disappear while the status quo continues on.

Even yesterday at the march and rally, I felt an overwhelming sense of unity.  But then I heard one person berating and telling other person to leave because they wouldn't accept a KPFT sticker.  As much as I love and support KPFT, we are not coming together for a radio station we are coming together to unite against everything that is wrong in this country.

So I ask everyone, even myself, to come to these events with an open mind, with acceptance, inclusiveness, and the will to look past our difference and find our common ground.  UNITED we stand and divided we fail.

WE ARE THE 99% AND WE MUST STAND TOGETHER!

I completely agree with you. This "movement" has the potential to be something great and world changing if it is done correctly. We need to unite over one single idea, act on it, and wait for a response from "big business". One great idea would be to BOYCOTT WALMART! What better way to show our disgust and indignation with what is going on by protesting the largest seller of goods in the world. How would this action effect Wall Street? That is yet to be seen, but i'm sure the splash would create many ripples across the market. Of course, once again, this is something that the whole organization would have to get behind and act on. Also it is just an idea at this point. Everyone needs to be thinking about exactly why they are part of this and what they want to accomplish. Just the fact that you have a network including hundreds of cities and nearly every state in America participating is astronomical in scale. We already have traction here, we just need to keep the wheels spinning and be constantly innovative. This is the first movement of its kind where we are ALL interconnected by the web, and we must use this tool to keep close communication between other cities with like causes. I am extremely excited along with a majority of this country about what is going on, and I will be behind it 100 percent and am ready to see it through. I wait tables and have been using it as a platform for letting people know what is going on. I literally ask every person I see what they think about it, and if they don't know, I TELL THEM. Of course I do work and can not camp out every night in Houston, not to mention the gasoline situation. However, when I was at the City Hall on Thursday I had heard that there was going to be a candle light vigil at city hall on Monday and I do intend to be there for the day. I would love to speak with some people about what they are thinking about all of this and hear other ideas and solutions to our growing concerns.

Thank you for your time and interest,

Ryan C.
