I'm sorry , but I never saw any of this racism or sexism that is being sensationalized. In fact, from the get go, I witnessed nothing but measures being taken as to ensure this was never an issue to begin with, especially racism and police brutality. It was never an issue of people being left out or blocked from being involved, it was simply an issue of lack of interest or lack of turnout from various persons, that some are obviously trying to place into certain groups, instead of just considering us all one family. It isn't a start in the right direction, it was headed in the right direction to begin with; this racism, sexism, unequal representation and so called acceptance or endorsement of police brutality towards ethnic groups, is a complete non-starter and completely fallacious. This was one family against inequality and brutality from the moment of its inception.

YOUR LACK OF NOTICE OF RACISM IN FACT MEANS YOU ARE IN DENIAL OR RACIST YOURSELF.
HOUSTON IS 39% BLACK AND 39% LATINO. WE ARE THE MAJORITY OF THE 99% YET ONLY 2% REPRESENTED
IN OCCUPY HOUSTON.
AT THAT MEETING IN QUESTION THE ONLY BLACK WOMEN AND LATINO WOMEN
NOMINATED WERE BLOCKED ALL THOUGH THEY WERE THE MOST EXPERIENCED IN COMMUNITY ORGANIZING
AND MOBILIZING. WE WERE BLOCKED BY WHITE MALES AND DISRESPECTED AND CUT WHILE SPEAKING TIME
AND TIME AGAIN WHILE WHITES WERE ALLOWED TO SPEAK.
WHEN ASKED HOW MANY AFRICAN AMERICAN
GROUPS AND ORGANIZATIONS WERE CONTACTED IN REGARDS TO THE MOBILIZING OF OCCUPY HOUSTON
THE ANSWER WAS ZERO.

Krystal,
Stop! Just stop it! There's no white-man conspiracy! From what I heard, certain people blocked said women for perfectly legitimacy reasons. How dare you call me racist (for I am not in denial), when I have been in full support of EVERYONE who wants to get involved in the occupy movement.
Krystal, If we are racist, how come the core group is not made up of white males only?

The issue of police brutality and the death penalty are issues outside of race. They are also a side issue to why these protests are occurring. The issues of representation by other organizations is not about race either. No other organization should represent this organization or have priority over any other person trying to participate. The support from other organization can beneficial to both but not all the goals and interests may be supported by both. This could be over their main point of existence or just flat out disagreement even as common goals and interests exist. The issue of who was speaking has more to do with who was at the meetings than what the demographics of the general population are. I do not think the motivations behind support of this movement are racially charged for most participating. There is an wealth inequality which does disproportionately effects non-whites or immigrant families but it does effect whites as well and the reasons for the discrepancy include issues outside of race. Even those who are well off and selfish about what policy they endorse do have reason to be concerned for those have problems or are under represented. Everyone in the 99% should be concerned about the misrepresentation going on in our government though they might not feel the problem is one of race. The issues or calls for support do not need to be direct toward a particular race either as we all share in this interest. To direct them to any particular race would be racist.
I do not think its fair to accuse groups of racism or sexism due to a lack of participation though it is well documented that people have been discriminated against when dealing with issues of wealth, opportunity, or political participation. If you feel these groups are under represented I encourage you to inform people about why these protest are happening. Be aware people can only be represented by those who participate and not everyone feels they need to be represented by their race or geographic location.

THE ISSUES OF POLICE BRUTALITY AND THE DEATH PENALTY ARE INDEED ISSUES OF RACE, INJUSTICE AND INHUMANITY. THE STATISTICS ARE EVERY WHERE DO YOUR HOME WORK. THIS IS NOT NEW. AS A COMMUNITY AND NATIONAL ORGANIZER FOR OVER 20 YEARS IN THE SOUTH AND ACROSS THIS COUNTRY THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE BEING KILLED AND BRUTALIZED BY THE POLICE AND SENT TO DEATH ROLL ARE BLACK AND BROWN.
YOU CAN NOT SILENCE THE FACTS.
WALL STREET WAS STARTED WITH THE SLAVE TRADE AND IS BUILT ON A SLAVE CEMETARY.
AS FOR THE 99% DONT BE IN DENIAL.
DO YOU NOT KNOW WHAT RACISM IS?

Racism is the belief that there are inherent different traits in human racial groups which justify discrimination. The fact that you flat out ignored Stephen's comment, "I do not think its fair to accuse groups of racism or sexism due to a lack of participation…" shows you are blinded by your prejudices against white people and men. We are a demographic as well. If you feel Latinos and Blacks are not properly represented, why don't YOU take the initiative to go out and bring them to the general assemblies where I guarantee everyone will be welcomed warmly by the group. And WE don't operate on a quota system. We don't care what type of person shows up, as long as they are marching with us for the same reasons.

I clearly stated that there is a disproportionality, specifically with wealth inequality, I just don't think race largely contributes to the problems right now. It could be argued that racism of the past is largely why there is a disproportionality today but this is very different than saying police beat people because they are black. I don't mean to say racism is not more or the problems don't exist either. I conceder the problems of inequality, injustice, and human rights violations problems not just problems for X group of people or only about X group of people.
Wouldn't it be racist to help people just because of race? Enlist the support from people over race? Have representation based around race? I honestly think you are seeing at least a few problems here where there isn't one. Case in point your point about the flags when they are there for translations. A post like that makes you look like an internet troll.
I'm going to state here that I don't think issues of police brutality or the death penalty are not issues for 'ending the corporate corruption of democracy.' It not because of a disagreement over the value of the issue but a call for an extremely sharp focus on removing the kind of corruption that inhibits the correction of problems. This focus would include the exclusion of all the things I think should be done to fix problems outside of our political corruption as well.
