The Sandusky Effect…

A young man witnesses what he thinks is act of pedophilia by a respected member of their community.  This community being the Penn State Athletics.  The young man takes the matter to the God-head of this community.  The God-head then takes it to his higher level authorities for them to deal with.  These authorities deal with the manner in such way that protects their community, the respected member of the community and the status quo.  The end result is three people are charged with crimes.  Joe Paterno loses his job and the school is shamed for harboring this individual and his behavior.  Despite the actual crime only being committed by one person.  The inaction of the others turns out to be crimes too, whether judicial or by public.  The crime itself is heinous on its own but the greater crime is the complicity of the community and the pillars of this community to allow this to continue…

The Sandusky effect is, that the actual crime being committed is being done by a minority member of the community but how that community deals with this crime or injustice relates not only to the perp but also to the victim.  How many have witnessed 'crimes' against a group of people or person and did nothing because they felt more aligned with the perp than the victim?  How many have benefited from allying themselves with the perpetrators in silent agreement or apathy to the crime so they can get better pay or maintain the peace in the world?  Those who chose to say nothing in the face of injustice are as much part of the guilty party as the person committing the crime.  White Racism works the same way.  Until we collectively speak about the crimes and our roles in perpetrating the crime not of just White racism but gender bias and the like.  We will be nothing more than facilitators of our own injustice.

Michael Vick vs Sandusky In A Post Racial World

Written by Carol Carter

Why Won’t Some Whites Forget And Move On From Michael Vick’s Mistake?  Thousands of mostly white people are still suffering from “Permanent Michael Vick Syndrome”, as well as Oprah and a few other “politically refined blacks”. Some of those voices are still clamoring because dogs (next to whites on the unspoken “Hierarchy of Mammals”) were abused by Michael Vick. Never mind that Michael Vick did not invent that Sport; which is still practiced by many. Never mind the continuation of bull fighting, where bulls are persistently harassed to keep charging (with spears stuck in their bodies) while mostly white crowds clamor for more bleeding and goring of bulls. Never mind the hunting of wild games so that white men can have more trophies on their walls. Never mind all of such sense-less animal abuse for the entertainment of mostly white crowds.

The powerful message in the Michael Vick’s saga is that black humans will be aggressively punished, for stepping out of line; especially when it comes to a white people’s best friend. Consequently; although Michael Vick was dis-graced and forced to pay more than if he’d killed a few blacks, many (at this moment) still think that it’s unconscionable, that he’s allowed to return to his profession, instead of spending the rest of his life, promoting Animal/Dog Rights. Now don’t get me wrong. In no way am I condoning Michael Vick’s actions; but the way that many have responded to this Penn State incident (in comparison to the eternal outrage for Michael Vick’s dog abuse) is an indication that the priorities that black people are joining others to adhere to; must change. Black people cannot join white people in making animal rights our priority, when black people worldwide are still being impacted by racist white rules.

Our subconscious allegiance to White power; which; without vocalizing a single command, silences the most power-ful black voices, when mostly Black Children have been violated by a supposed benevolent white Coach must be reassessed. This power that we think we have as a race must be proven with what we can do. Since we’ve acquiesced similarly, while starving Somalian Pirates are being jailed (albeit for attacks on others in their Ocean); while punishment is yet to be assigned to the Asians, Arabs and European Pirates stealing fish therefore starving Somalia’s Ocean, as well as dumping toxic waste on their land and sea. No! We can’t speak up as a people, when blatant wrongs we suffer from members of white society, who will more easily be granted funds for to set up supposed agencies for our benefits, than we would. These conditions we must understand are similar to the “Meritorious Manumissions” and other racist official policies of the past; traces of which must still be buried in the collective
subconsciousness of whites, who’ve assigned themselves to create National and International policies that control black lives.

Many of the most racist policies of old; (although not fully enforced today) were never officially denounced and repealed, therefore remain like a computer virus, propelling us to act against our collective self-interest and will.

How Much Better Are We Today Than Our Ancestors Were? (Check out: Meritorious Manumissions Act of the early 1700’s. Maryland’s 1638 Doctrine of Exclusion. As well as The Doctrine of Non-interference and Doctrine of Expandability. Then decide how far we are from those days). Consider if some of those tactics were sneaked into the Constitution; to keep us controlled, while we shout hallelujah, thank you Jesus for setting us free. Consider whether White Supremacy has kept us so engaged with day to day survival needs, thus we failed to see as Claude Anderson of “Black Labor White Wealth” states –paraphrased:

(1)We mistakenly believed that removing Jim Crow symbols would effectively end racism’s bite.

(2)We mistakenly thought that integration would release equal unobstructed access to resources, power and accumulation of wealth for those who legally and legitimately seek.

(3) Making the first two mistakes kept us from constructing institutions with long-term goals to transcend enforced generational dis-empowerment policies; so that the disadvantaged amongst us today, could be fully uplifted from within; as other communities do.

Now it is for us to understand (from this Snadusky saga) that our “coded underprivileged” must be nurtured and made whole from within; (regardless of potential mistakes to come). No longer should our vulnerable children remain alone amongst potential sickos (who’ve historically valued our race less than dogs) to carry out their premeditated crimes, with the knowledge of peers who turned blind eyes to our children’s plight. (And yet we’re expected to not speak out unless we first ensure that no amount of white guilt our words will provoke).

Sexual Depravity: A Product Of White Civilizing and White Christianizing! When white men went around the world to dis-empower whomever they encountered, they found many living naked, but nowhere did they find the widespread sexual depravity that white Priests, Missionaries and other depraved white persons unleashed on the world, in the
guise of civilization and God. Genetic proofs now confirm the widespread raping of overworked black women that took place on plantations (leaving European genes in the majority of American blacks). And even though (thanks to the Catholic Church) we’re understanding a great incidence of “Male On Male Rapes” the impact of such rapes unleashed on black men in Africa, must now enter the equation, for a better understanding of why black Africans have been unable to heal. It’s time to reassess whether we should return to our ancestors’ older ways, which European Missionaries declared ungodly and uncivilized, when it was their ways that engaged the worst and most heinous inhumane crimes. It’s time we accept that the same mindset that caused the problem, cannot be expected to fix it, especially when their egos are still so involved.

Let’s Fully Know And Own Ourselves Black People.  And last but not least black people; if we truly own ourselves, it’s time to wake-up and realize that we don’t have to join the choir that sings “Post Racial” when we know damn well, that our voting status is yet to be satisfactorily rectified, so that needs no scrutiny by Congress, or repeated
amendments would be needed to ensure. My people I beg us all, please let’s get the status of WHO OWN US straight; before we can resolve the chronic problems impacting black people worldwide. If our single-minded focus on our own problems must be measured against potential white approval, then we definitely don’t own ourselves. It’s we who must be responsible for uplifting our own children, so that across the Globe they’re no longer at the mercy of sexually depraved white men, who when push comes to shove, are going to protect each other, over the rights of those coded as “underprivileged inner-city kids”. If the privileges of the few are so shaky, that they must remain gagged in situations as this, then we definitely are nowhere near Post Racial to relax.

P.S.  It is not my intention to paint all white persons as lacking genuine sensitivity or ability to be reasonable with blacks. And neither would I ignore the fact that some blacks are worse for the black race than whites can ever be.
This is not to say that the majority of white humans are not as outraged about this incident as most blacks ought to be (since I wouldn’t assume that all blacks get it, or even care about what happens to their race). However; in order for our best interest to be realized, the concerned amongst us, must first become strong by ourselves, then add our best to the whole, without the permission and aid of others, whose superiority claims, still depend on us buying such crap, and acquiescing in fear. For collective psychic health, Black children must start getting the most help from black hands and faces. So black people; we must engage the process of SELF-REPARATIONS, since the white world does not have enough money to pay us Reparations for the centuries of crimes committed against black human beings. Again I say black people, let’s move on from this Sandusky ordeal, more united, whole willing to be patient and forgiving with each others , as we work together to truly OVERCOME!!

Did Race Explain Penn State's Blind Eye to Sex Scandal?

by Earl Ofari Hutchinson

Enough of the ghoulish, sordid facts are known about the Penn State University child sex scandal to say this. The alleged child rapes were known by some athletic department members, up to and including the football program boss, JoePa, Joe Paterno. The rumors, or worse, knowledge of the rapes may have been known by or at least heard of by others still unnamed that could eventually be a winding tangle through university staff, faculty, administrators, trustees, and corporate donors, and politicians.

The two prime offenders charged with the crimes were not some causal locker room jocks and hangers on, but long term, respected, and highly positioned athletic department mainstays. The Second Mile Foundation that served as a cover for the alleged rapes by its founder, the disgraced and accused child rapist Jerry Sandusky was not some fly-by-night, drive by, fast buck operation, but a well-established foundation that had been in business for more than three decades. Sandusky was with the Foundation from the start in 1977 until just last year. Even as the scandal unfolds, it is still in business. It has a big, impressive, full bodied website that boasts of its accomplishments, has three offices, and is actively soliciting donations. The reporters that have tried to get a comment from foundation officials have been summarily hung up on.

There will be more sordid facts and cases to emerge in the coming days and almost certainly more alleged victims will come forth and tell their stories. This poses the question that's bantered about, agonized over, and reams of opinion written, and that's why those who knew didn't blow the whistle on and insure that the cuffs were slapped on the offenders years ago? The stock answer is that it was a case of fear, protectiveness, ego (Paterno's), football
deification and prestige, decades of institutional sports cronyism and the bushels of money that Penn State and other big time Division 1 schools haul in every year from their flagship football programs. This is all true.

But with the strong hints and now the public finger point by a parent of one of the victims that the victims were in her words " Blacks about 10-12 and had a tall slim muscular build." The Second Mile Foundation's founder and accused Jerry Sandusky openly bragged that it was in the business of helping "underprivileged" youth, always the polite code word for poor, at risk, young blacks and Hispanics, it's hardly a stretch to connect the dots to race.

Put bluntly, if Penn State officials kept their yaps shut for years in the face of open knowledge of and strong suspicions of the child rapes and the victims were young black males, than the last dot connected is the charge that black lives are routinely devalued when it comes to officials taking action to protect them. This charge has repeatedly been leveled in serial murders, inner city gang carnage, and against child service agencies that ignore or downplay repeated reports of abuse when the victims and the abused are black. That's only part of the problem. Race can't be separated from poverty or "underprivileged" in the parlance of Sandusky's The Second Mile Foundation. A study in the March issue of the Journal Pediatrics, "Racial Bias in Child Protection? A Comparison of Competing Explanations Using National Data," found that poverty was a huge determinant not only of levels of abuse. The study predictably found that a disproportionate number of the reported child abuse cases in 2009 which spanned the gamut from neglect to child rape were African-American children. The study directly linked the abuse to poverty. Parents and caregivers that are desperate to provide their children with a pathway out of harm's way from any and every type of abuse that comes with poverty latch on to organizations that promise to provide resources, mentoring, nurturing, and a protective environment for at risk black children.

"On November 4, 2011, Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly indicted Sandusky on 40 counts of sex crimes against young boys, following a three-year investigation. Sandusky was arrested on November 5 and charged with seven counts of involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, as well as eight counts of corruption of minors, eight counts of endangering the welfare of a child, seven counts of indecent assault, and other offenses" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P…..se_scandal

Children:  All non-white people in the known universe.

1) All non-white people are subject to Racism/White Supremacy. The White Supremacists/Racists are the functional mothers and fathers of all non-white people in the known universe. All non-white people depend on the White
Supremacists/Racists in all areas of people activity:

Economics,Education,Entertainment,Labor,Law,Politics,Religion,,Sex and War.

Master Child Abuser = A White Supremacist (Racist).

Explanation:

In a world social and material system dominated by White Supremacy (Racism), all non-white people, in order to survive, must function in a manner that is comparatively “child-like”. They are forced to speak and act in a manner
that is both childish, and subordinate, all of the time, in all areas of activity, including Economics, Education, Entertainment, Labor, Law, Politics, Religion, Sex and War.

Since White Supremacy is the dominant form of non-justice in the known universe, those white persons who practice White Supremacy are the Greatest and most Masterful abusers of “children” in the known universe.

Therefore, any person who practices White Supremacy is a Master Child Abuser.

Man’s Child, and/or Woman’s Child =

Any male or female person classified as “black” or “non-white”, and who generally functions in direct or indirect support of White Supremacy (Racism).

"Marriage =

(1) Any mutual and harmonious relationship between male and female persons who do, or do not engage in sexual intercourse, and, who are not, in any way, subject to the direct or indirect dominant will of any person(s) who
practice non-justice.

(2) Any mutual and harmonious relationship between male and female persons, none of whom are directly, or indirectly, subject to White Supremacy (Racism), in any one or more areas of activity, including Economics, Education, Entertainment, Labor, Law, Politics, Religion, Sex and War.

As long as White Supremacy (Racism) exists, avoid using the term “husband”, the term “wife”, or the term “parent”, to describe any non-white person. Instead, practice using the terms:

•“Acting husband”, and/or “attempt husband”.
•“Acting wife”, and/or “attempt wife”.
•“Acting parent”, and/or “attempt parent”.

Reason (s)/ Explanation (s):

No person [non-white] can be subject to White Supremacy (Racism) in anything that he or she says, or does, in any area of activity, and, at the same time, be a “husband”, a “wife”, or a “parent”, to any other person —– white or non-white.  All persons [non-white] who are subject to, and/or, who are victims of White Supremacy (Racism) are, also, functionally, Racist-RETARDED “children”.  A functional, and/or Racist-RETARDED “child” is not “qualified” to be a “husband”.

A functional, and/or Racist-RETARDED “child” is not “qualified” to be a “wife”. A functional, and/or Racist-RETARDED “child” CAN produce off-spring. He or she is not “qualified” to be a “parent”.

It is important to know and understand that one of the basic functions of Racist is to retard and confuse non-white people. Under White Supremacy, ALL NON-WHITE PEOPLE FUNCTION AS RETARDED CHILDREN."

“Black” People =

Generally, any people “classified” by “white’ people, as being “non-white”, and/or, as being “darker” of those people generally regarded as “non-white”. The “non-white” classification generally includes persons classified as "brown”, “red”, “yellow”, etc., and/or any “black shades”,“shades” of “black”, and/or “shades of shades” of “black”.

Black Man, and/or Black Woman =

Any Black and/or non-white male or female person who is NOT subject to White Supremacy (Racism), and who does not, in any manner, directly or indirectly, do or say anything that helps to support White Supremacy in any
area of activity, including Economics, Education, Entertainment, Labor, Law, Politics, Religion, Sex and War.

[Explanation]:

No “Black”, and/or “non-white” person can be correctly called a “man” or a “woman”, and at the same time, be subject to White Supremacy (Racism).

The reason is that no “Black” and/or “non-white” person can FUNCTION as a “man”, or as a “women”, and at the same time, submit to, or cooperate with, White Supremacists (Racists), in any manner, directly or indirectly.

That person, at the time, can only function as a MALE or FEMALE “child”, subject, and/or victim.

Therefore, under White Supremacy, it is correct to refer to each Black, or non-white person, as a MALE or FEMALE, and/or, as a victim — NOT as a “man”; NOT as a “woman”.

McQueary believes he saw Sandusky molest boy

December 16 2011

HARRISBURG, Pa.  State assistant football coach testified Friday that he believes he saw former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky molesting a boy on campus and that he fully conveyed what he had seen to two Penn State administrators.

Mike McQueary, speaking for the first time in public about the 2002 encounter in a Penn State locker room, said he believes that Sandusky was attacking the child with his hands around the boy’s waist but said he wasn’t 100 percent sure it was intercourse.

McQueary took the stand Friday morning in a Pennsylvania courtroom during a preliminary hearing for university
officials Tim Curley and Gary Schultz, who are accused of lying to a grand jury about what McQueary told them.

At the conclusion of the hearing, District Judge William C. Wenner ruled that prosecutors have enough evidence to send their cases to trial.

McQueary’s story is central to the case against Curley and Schultz. They testified to the grand jury that McQueary never relayed the seriousness of what he saw. The officials, and Penn State coach Joe Paterno, have been criticized for never telling police about the 2002 allegation. Prosecutors saySandusky continued to abuse boys for six more years.

The lawyers for Curley and Schultz say the men are innocent and that uncorroborated testimony from McQueary is not enough on which to hang the case. Curley and Schultz told the grand jury that they remembered McQueary reporting only something inappropriate, like wrestling, but nothing as serious as rape.

McQueary, who was on the stand for about two hours Friday, said he had stopped by a campus football locker room to drop off a pair of sneakers in the spring of 2002 when he heard slapping sounds in a shower and happened upon Sandusky and the boy.

He said Sanduskywas behind the boy he estimated to be 10 or 12 years old, with his hands wrapped around the youngster’s waist. He said the boy was facing a wall, with his hands on it.

McQueary, 37, said he has never described what he saw as anal rape or anal intercourse and couldn’t see Sandusky’s genitals, but that ‘‘it was very clear that it looked like there was intercourse going on.’’

In its report last month, the grand jury summarized McQueary’s testimony as saying he ‘‘saw a naked boy …with his hands up against the wall, being subjected to anal intercourse by a naked Sandusky.’’

Under cross examination by an attorney for Curley, McQueary reiterated that he had not seen Sandusky penetrating or fondling the boy but was nearly certain they were having intercourse because the two were standing so close and Sandusky’s arms were wrapped around the youth.

He said he peeked into the shower three times — the first via a mirror, the other two times directly. The last time he looked in, Sandusky and the boy had separated, he said. He said he didn’t say anything, but ‘‘I know they saw me. They looked directly in my eye, both of them.’’

McQueary said the entire encounter — from when he first entered the locker room to when he retreated to his office — lasted about 45 seconds.

McQueary said he reported what he saw to Paterno but never went to police.

He said he did not give Paterno explicit details of what he believed he'd seen, saying he wouldn’t have used terms like sodomy or anal intercourse out of respect for the longtime coach.

Paterno told the grand jury that McQueary reported seeing Sandusky doing something of a ‘‘sexual nature’’ with the
youngster but that he didn’t press for details.

‘‘I didn’t push Mike …because he was very upset,’’ Paterno said. ‘‘I knew Mike was upset, and I knew some kind of inappropriate action was being taken by Jerry Sandusky with a youngster.’’

McQueary said Paterno told him he'd ‘‘done the right thing’’ by reporting the encounter. The head coach appeared shocked and saddened and slumped back in his chair, McQueary said.

Paterno told McQueary he would talk to others about what he'd reported.

Nine or 10 days later, McQueary said he met with Curley and Schultz and told them he'd seen Sandusky and a boy, both naked, in the shower after hearingskin-on-skin slapping sounds.

‘‘I told them that I saw Jerry in the showers with a young boy and that what I had seen was extremely sexual and over the lines and it was wrong,’’ McQueary said. ‘‘I would have described that it was extremely sexual and I thought that some kind of intercourse was going on.’’

McQueary said he was left with the impression both men took his report seriously. When asked why he didn’t go to police, he referenced Schultz’s position as a vice president at the university who had overseen the campus police.

‘‘I thought I was talking to the head of the police, to be frank with you,’’ he said. ‘‘In my mind it was like speaking to a (district attorney). It was someone who police reported to and would know what to do with it.’’

Curley told the grand jury that he couldn’t recall his specific conversation with McQueary, but that McQueary never reported seeing anal intercourse or other sexual conduct. He said he recalled McQueary reporting wrestling or ‘‘horsing around.’’

Schultz said he remembered McQueary and Paterno describing what the younger coach saw only in a very general way.

‘‘I had the impression it wasinappropriate,’’ Schultz told the grand jury. ‘‘I had the feeling it was some king of wrestling activity and maybe Jerry might have grabbed a young boys genitals.’’

Under cross-examination, McQueary said he considered what he saw a crime but didn’t call police because ‘‘it was
delicate in nature.’’

‘‘I tried to use my best judgment,’’ he said. ‘‘I was sure the act was over.’’ He said he never tried to find the boy.

Paterno, Schultz and Curley didn’t testify, but Judge Wenner read their grand jury testimony from January in weighing the case.

Curley’s attorney, Caroline Roberto, said prosecutors ‘‘will never be able to reach their burden proof at a trial.’’

Schultz’s attorney, Tom Farrell, predicted his client would be acquitted.

He also took a shot at Paterno, saying, ‘‘I'm an Italian from Brooklyn, and he may not have called the police but he may have done what I would have done, which is get the boys in the car with a few baseball bats and crowbars and take it to the fellow.’’

Sandusky says he is innocent of more than 50 charges stemming from what authorities say were sexual assaults
over 12 years on 10 boys in his home, on Penn State property and elsewhere. The scandal has provoked strong criticism that Penn State officials didn’t do enough to stop Sandusky, and prompted the departures of Paterno and the school’s longtime president, Graham Spanier.

Curley, 57, Penn State’s athletic director, was placed on leave by the university after his arrest.  Schultz, 62, returned to retirement after spending about four decades at the school, most recently as senior vice president for business and finance, and treasurer. http://bostonglobe.com/sports/…..story.html

Pacing the Penn State sideline just the way his dad did for 46 seasons, Jay Paterno couldn't help but wonder what JoePa might be doing back home in Happy Valley.

A 30-14 loss to Houston at the Ticket City Bowl on Monday ended a tumultuous season for a program shrouded with uncertainty following the firing of a Hall of Fame coach in the aftermath of a child sex-abuse scandal that shook college sports.

"It wasn't easy … It wasn't easy on game day without him because you think about him," said Jay Paterno, Penn State's quarterbacks coach. "I always came to work knowing we had an ace up our sleeve in Joe because of all of his experience, so yeah it was tough."

For the players, too.

"We've been to hell and back in a lot of ways, more so for our kids," Paterno said. "They did nothing."

The 24th-ranked Nittany Lions were picked apart by Case Keenum and the 20th-ranked Cougars. He threw for 532 yards and three touchdowns, a dispiriting finish for a defense that was allowing 162 yards passing per game.

Keenum threw for more than double that by halftime. Now, Houston (13-1) gets to relish in the satisfaction of extending its school record for victories in a season.

Penn State must push forward still without a permanent head coach. Longtime defensive coordinator Tom Bradley, who was appointed the interim coach after Paterno's dismissal, is a candidate in a search that overshadowed the game itself.

"I thought the guys came out and they played hard. It's been a difficult year for them," Bradley said. "It just didn't go our way."

Keenum burned the Nittany Lions' veteran secondary with touchdown passes of 40 and 75 yards to build a 24-7 lead by halftime. It was the school's first bowl game without Paterno as head coach since the 1962 Gator Bowl, a 17-7 loss to Florida.

Paterno was fired Nov. 9 by school trustees amid mounting criticism that school leaders should have done more to prevent the shocking abuse allegations against retired assistant Jerry Sandusky. He is awaiting trial after pleading not guilty last month.

Bradley's enormous task: guide players besieged by the resulting media scrutiny.

Bypassed by more prominent bowls, some Nittany Lions (9-4) debated whether to travel to Dallas at all, then vowed they were over getting jilted and focused on stopping Houston.

Turned out Linbacker U. got trampled over by Keenum and Houston's high-octane offense.

"When you have a lot of fast guys, it makes my job a lot easier," Keenum said.

Start with receiver Patrick Edwards, who burned safety Macolm Willis for a 40-yard touchdown pass from Keenum down the left sideline for a 7-0 lead just 1:52 into the game that often resembled a one-sided track meet. Keenum hit Justin Johnson for an 8-yard TD pass with 2:35 left for a 17-0 lead.

Houston coach Tony Levine, leading the Cougars for the first time since replacing Kevin Sumlin, was pretty impressed.

"I'm biased, obviously. I'd put him right at the top," Levine said of Keenum. "You don't win 12 games by accident and I don't think you don't break the records he broke by accident, either."

Already the NCAA career leader coming into the game for passing yardage and touchdown passes, Keenum added another record to his impressive resume.

His 227 first-quarter passing yards set the record for most passing yards in one quarter in any bowl game, breaking the mark previously held by Louisville's Browning Nagle (223 yards) against Alabama in the first quarter of the 1991 Fiesta Bowl, according to TicketCity Bowl officials.

Penn State All-American defensive tackle Devon Still, already slowed by turf toe, couldn't keep up with Keenum's quick release and Houston's no-huddle attack. The Cougars exploited Penn State's bend-but-don't -break defense across the middle, including Edwards 75-yard touchdown reception up the seam from a scrambling Keenum for a 24-7 lead by halftime.

Keenum finished 45 of 69 passing — two fewer attempts than the number of offensive plays Penn State ran all afternoon.

Down by 20 midway through the third quarter, cornerback Stephon Morris tried to keep his fellow defenders motivated on the bench with high-fives.

The struggling offense without injured starting quarterback Matt McGloin provided a glimmer of hope after Rob Bolden connected with Justin Brown for a pretty 69-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 27-14 at 2:38 of the third quarter.

Penn State's defense adjusted to hold the Cougars to just two field goals in the second half, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome and Bolden threw three second-half interceptions — two by safety Nick Saenz.

"We knew they were going to be tough, we watched a lot of film on them," left tackle Quinn Barham said about Houston's defense. "We knew — and they brought it to us."

With 12 minutes left in the fourth quarter, Penn State had already given up 552 yards of total offense to Houston, the most allowed by the Nittany Lions all season.

This wasn't the lasting impression Bradley wanted to leave on the Penn State committee searching for Paterno's replacement.

The outgoing Bradley, who is popular with players, is among the candidates who have been interviewed. Acting athletic director David Joyner has said he hopes to have a new coach in place to give him a few weeks to recruit before Feb. 1, when high school seniors can announce their college choices.

Penn State defensive tackle Jordan Hill said he wasn't relieved a difficult season was over.

"I'm glad that we're going to get to move on, but it's hard letting go of this team because we're so close," he said.

Bolden finished 7 of 26 passing for 137 yards, while Stephfon Green ran for 63 yards on 15 carries including a 6-yard scoring run on a direct snap in the second quarter.

It was one of the few times the Cougars' D got tricked. After getting upset 49-28 by Southern Mississippi in the Conference USA title game to lose a chance to play in the BCS, Houston ended the season with an impressive win over a power conference team.

Edwards finished with 10 catches and 228 yards for two touchdowns, while Johnson had 12 catches for 148 yards at the 92,000-seat Cotton Bowl.

The stands were about a half-full on a sunny afternoon that ended with Houston's red-clad fans celebrating and chanting "Houston."

Back in State College, the 85-year-old Paterno planned to watch from home, Jay Paterno said. He may not have been happy by what he saw — though he was still rooting for his players.

''One thing he said, 'Yeah, I'm going to watch because I care so much about these kids,'" Jay said. "He cares about those kids."
